About BDAE

Barrow & District Association of Engineers was founded in 1908 promoting Engineering in South Cumbria through lectures from September to April each year.

Over 25 years ago under the strap line ‘Helping Tomorrow’s Engineers Today’ the organisation expanded introducing bursary awards to local schools/students encouraging them to consider engineering as a career opportunity.

Our strategy is to work with sponsors and academia to promote engineering, and technology in general, plus to increase the take up of STEM, Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths, related subjects, in schools and colleges, leading to more students reading engineering related degrees and taking technical apprenticeships.
